Marienfeld offers you a variety of leisure time facilities and several outstanding sights, of which the monastery of Marienfeld – in only a few hundred metres distance from us – is but one. It was founded more than 800 years ago by monks of the Cistercian order and was an eminent place of religious faith and lore in the Middle Ages. When you visit this place, you may still feel the sublime and reposeful atmosphere that emanates from this edifice, its precious art treasures, and large gardens. In the Middle Ages, the dairy-farm of Westmeyer used to provide the monks of the monastery with dairy products.
After taking a tour of the monastery, you may take a break in the stylish café, in the monastic brewery, or in one of the excellent restaurants. In the monastery’s shop you may also buy books, wine, and antiques.
Further attractive leisure time activities in and around Marienfeld are the nature reserves Hühnermoor and Boomberge. Boomberge is an area of inland dunes which allows for long walks and hikes within a singular and diversified countryside. Marienfeld and our country hotel are ideally situated for cyclists and hikers – both the attractive Ems Cycle Route and the Road to Santiago pass by closely to our hotel. The European Bicycle Route R1 even passes directly through the farming estate. Marienfeld also has various sports facilities and a golf course nearby.
